Honoring President George H. W. Bush

The BUSH CHINA CONFERENCE brings together Americans and Chinese to discuss critical bilateral, regional and global issues and to generate innovative recommendations for advancing the relationship.

Commemorating 40 years of U.S.-China relations

Conference Theme: U.S.-China relations at 40: The Past, Present and Future of the World’s Most Important Bilateral Relationship

Reflect    Advance    Anticipate

Panel discussions will reflect on the lessons of the first 40 years following the normalization of diplomatic relations between the United States and China, advance the discussion on the most critical issues in today’s bilateral relationship and anticipate opportunities for future collaboration between the two countries. Topics will include energy, trade and investment, agriculture, health, philanthropy and national security.

Groundbreaking Policy Hackathons

Keying off of the technology innovation concept of a “hack”, the exploratory development of innovative and novel solutions to problem sets, policy hackathons will task diverse teams of experts and stakeholders to compete in developing inventive solutions to pressing policy issues. The teams of experts will have four to five hours to devise actionable recommendations for U.S. and Chinese policymakers. Each policy hackathon will culminate with a “pitch” session, where teams will present their solutions to a panel of expert judges and all conference attendees.

Millennial Masterminds of the U.S.-China Relationship

Representing the seminal minds of the American and Chinese millennial generation, the Millennial Masterminds will convene in the days leading up to the conference for a series of forward-looking and outside-the-box discussions on what the U.S.-China relationship will look like in 40 years. From domestic affairs to Asia-Pacific security to global economic trends, the Millennial Masterminds will tackle the most decisive issues the two countries will face in the coming decades. Their “masterminding” will conclude with a presentation of their observations and an interactive discussion with all conference attendees on the second day of the conference.
